Joing a string and an integer

I have a for loop running 1 through 12 and I have a string $school. What I want to do is apply the integer created from the loop ($i) to the end of the string ($school) to get the following results...

$school1
$school2
$school3
...
$school12

I know this is probably elementary, but I can't figure it out for the life of me! Any help would be appreciated.
