Sorting SQL queries

Why can't I sort the count(*) row like this?

SELECT browsername,count(*) FROM stats GROUP BY browsername ORDER BY browsername ASC

I do believe becasue you have no where clause. If you are just trying to get total records in stats table then omit the count(*) and use this after your query:
$count = $mysql_num_rows($result);

I just noticed the GROUP by clause, which only returns the first instance of each distinct browsername. Do you need to get a count for each browsername?

Yes I need a count for each browsername, but I want to sort the rows so that the most used browser will be on top, then descending towards the less used browser on the bottom.

So how do I sort the column named count(*).

Place the following at the end of your SQL Statement

ORDER BY Count(*)
