PHP and JavaScript

Does anyone have any idea if it is possible to call a PHP function from a JavaScript event handler? I can't think of any way, but it would be very useful if possible.

how about onLoad which uses window.popup, and which calls a .php file?

Yeah, that's a good idea, I'm hesitent to pop up a new window like that, basically because it's kinda ugly, but I might have to do that.

yes, me too. i hate them and i never see whats in the popup window, i just close it!

so, how about MouseOver event, which calls a JavaScript function, and this function can basically have anything, like refreshing the current window with some .php file. using window.reload

actually it depends what you really want to do. if you can mention your task with bit more details, then lets see if i can come up with something.

Okay, here's what's happening: When the user leaves my site, I want to commit some information that he/she has in a cookie to my server database. So if the user types in a new location, I want to be able to catch that and do some database writes before they leave.

It's obvisously going to have to be an OnUnLoad, otherwise there's no way to catch a browser window closing or the user typing in a new URL to the address bar (or clicking an external link).

Maybe an OnUnLoad that opens a minimized window that does the db writes and then closes itself automatically.
