Detecting a session end.

Hey!.. Do anyone have any way of detecting when a user leave the site so that the server can "logg" and entry in a mySQL?
To use in for example a chat when a user Joins and Leave the chat, the joinpart is easy but the Leavepart is really tricky for me.

okay now, i think we can use JavaScript here, which calls some .php script on 'onUnLoad' of the page.

but i cant figure out if the JavaScript function can call .php script or not. all i can think of is calling popup window which will have .php file, which will log the exit of the user, and to make it look good, just put some message saying 'Good bye! 🙂'

Okay for your problm there are 2 cases,

the first is straight forward, if the user is polite enough to click the logoff button, you can call a phpscript to enter log and kill the session,

Under the second case just as the previous user has mentioned call a javascript function onUnLoad which can pop up a small window which runs the script for hasty close, where you will enter the log but not necessary to kill anything as the session automatically ends. You might choose to close this box yourself or give user the option to close this box.

I had a similar problem,
Whenever a new session is created I created a table called UserActiiviy, and in there I have a field named expires which is the current time + 15 minutes... upon every
subsuquent page load I keep addding 15 minutes to the current time, and the same time I check to see all expired sessions and then log them out.... (If they weren't nice enough to log out on their own)
