loss of connection to MySQL

I have been using this piece of code and getting not error message when I connect to MySQL but then immediately after an error message is displayed to say that the connection has been lost during query. I have no idea why this is occuring. Is it a problem with PHP or MySQL. Please help because it is driving me crazy.

What kind of query are you performing? Do you insert very large amounts of data (e.g. from a file-upload)?

Thanks for your reply, but no, it is just a simple query from a single table. I have only just begun to use it and I have only got as far as simple queries!
I am wondering if I have configured PHP correctly to connect to MySQL.

Greetings all,

I have installed PHP 4.0.2 and MySQL 3.22.32 and Apache 1.3.12 on a Sun
Sparc 20 running Solaris 2.6. I can now
connect just fine using the mysql client and can run queries, etc.
However, when I try to do the normal connection
transaction using PHP Scripts, I get an error that says "MySQL Said:
Lost connection to the Server During Query". It doesn't matter what the transaction is,
the server just says that it aborted every connection attempt.

The really weird part is that if I refresh the browser a bunch of times
in a row, I get the phpMyAdmin index page (which obviously requires a successful connection) to come
up. But not in any realiable way. Does anyone know a reason for this
very sporadic service? There have also been
some security scripts run on this computer....and I kinda feel that they
are to blame, because I have been able to
get MySQL to answer up on a stock 2.6 system.

I have exactly the same problem.

My environment is:
php-4.0.3p11
apache 1.3.14
mysql 3.22.20a

Immediately after I issue my SELECT (even on small tables), it FAILS.

Nothing I do makes it work. I know I'm connecting to the database, because I get a resource ID, so it's certainly not a password or ACL issue.

SELECTs work fine from the command line mysql interperter.

The worst part is that I need to have this working for a site quite soon, and I'm getting nowhere.

I work with Asp and mysql. It´s not PHP but maybe I can help you all and you can help me too.

I had the same error to many times, then I noticed that I had to close the database just once per page. Reducing times of openning and closing the database can help.

Now i have to refresh the page just once.

Can the problem be timeout?
Can I change timeout configuration?
