Does anybody know whether it is possible to search text contained in a PDF using PHP?
If so how?

As far as I know, the only support that PHP has is for writing PDFs. That is there are no functions that enable one to read a PDF. This is due to the limitations for the currently availible PDF libraries.
That's what I'm saying. No free libraries exist as of yet that can do PDF parsing/searching. COM objects are another story (I think).
