variables not being passed through

Hi, if I set a variable with an include, it doesn't seem to get set outside of the include. Does anyone know why this is?
I'm running php on win98 using httpd

It should be set outside of the include too... Are you sure you are not seting the variable inside a function... If you are then you would have to do a:

global $variable;

then it would work
