xml parsing

I am trying to parse a very large xml file, 585 MB to be exact. It's content.rdf.u8, dump file from the open source directory: www.dmoz.com/rdf
I have parse the smaller version (30K) of the file, but no luck with big one.

If anyone has parsed this file or knows how to parse this type of file, I would greatly appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.

I haven't had luck completing the parsing of this mammoth file - but I have figured out why it is not parsing. PHP only uses one character set in it's XML parser (UTF-8, US-ASCII, or an ISO) and will only output to one character set. Even worse is that MySQL can only have one character set for each table. I have successfully completed parsing the structures.rd.u8 file and I get about 50K links into the content before it dumps on me. I wish I could get uhtrans to compile on my box so I could convert it all to UTF-8 - it should parse after that.

How do you setup PHP to parse XML files? I am new to setting up PHP. I read the manual but they weren't quite clear. I have addded the following line to my Apache httpd.conf file but I'm not sure if this is correct.

Action application/x-httpd-php "/php/php.exe --with-xml"

I am using Apache 1.3.12 for win98 & PHP 4.0.1pl2

I'm sure its really simple, but I'd appreciate if someone gave me a hand w/ this!

have you tried parsing it line by line using regular expression instead of using xml?
