XML with MySQL

Ok, Let me explain like you 're a 6 year old.
I need to create a database to store 'contents' however, the 'content' is generic, there is no predefined structure. Record A can be content for a newspaper site, Record B can be content for a corporate website. All these content must be contained in the same database. So I guess storing these content in XML format would be a good idea, right?

So, can I extract these XML contents, and depending on the XML content, find out the proper DTD, and then parse it to properly to dynamically create HTML, specifically for that type of content.

I know, it's kinda of complex and my explaination isn't helping either - hey, what can i do? I haven't been sleeping lately. So, anyone out there in the great big void, I'll be very grateful if you can help.

Why not just store the proper DTD in the database that you\'re storing your XML string in?

It depends how you're going to render the pages out to data. If you're going to use XSL you don't even need the DTD. You could just store a stylesheet for each type of document and have a field telling you what type the document is. If you want to do it in PHP I think you'll have to construct the html on the client.
