Resizing images

Is it possible to resize uploaded images in PHP? Say a user uploads a pic to be displayed on a webpage, and every pic needs to be 75x75. Is there some code out there that will automatically resize the image to 75x75 so I don't have to do it manually?

This should be possible if you compiled PHP with GD support and JPEG support, or PNG depending what your preferred file format is.
The only problem I had it that the web server would need to have write access to a directory on the server, which I never think of as a good thing. I thought about saving all images into a database but that database would get REAL big real fast.
I've done the resizing thing with GD in PHP though and it works really well. If you want a fixed size, like you mentioned 75x75 the image would need to be square or you'll get a black stripe to make up the difference. For example if your uploaded image was 150x100 your thumbnail would have a black stripe on the bottom since your image would scale down to 75x50, not 75x75. Clear as mud? :-)
The specifics would depend where the files are stored and in what format.

There are no PHP functions that I know of to do what you want, but if you compiled with the GD libraries you can use those functions.

Actually, it might be easier to just resize it when you're loading it back into your HTML document. You CAN specify the size that the image loads back into your document at, but obviously there will be distortion unless every pic. is a perfect square, etc.

Perhaps check out ImageCopyResized()...

Actually, specifying the size in the HTML still results in the entire image being downloaded to the browser anyway, so there is no savings in time or bandwidth with that approach. You can also specify only one dimension (WIDTH= or HEIGHT=) and the image will scale correctly in most browsers.

I believe that ImageCopyResized() requires the GD library...
