Query String variable Appender

Does anyone know of a simple script that will apend name/value pair to the URL of a link something like this:

echo "<a href=\"" . $PHP_SELF . $QUERY_STRING . "&foo=" . $bar . "\">something</a>";

but what I want the script to check is that that "foo" does not already exist in $QUERY_STRING.

Any help is appreciated,

Hi! Why don't you use a regex pattern to find if exists 'foo' in $QUERY_STRING?
I was thinking in something like:

if(!ereg("foo=", $QUERY_STRING)) {
$QUERY_STRING .= "&foo=bar";
}

Thanks, that definetly helps, but Iwas looking for something a little more sophisticated, in that, the script would overwrite the previous value of the variable if it existed. I guess I could spend two minutes and use the mid function. I just thought their'd be some sort of know script.
