Form field focus

I have a form where it contains 2 section. Let's call it section A and section B. For eg.

Section A

Section B

Age : [text box]
D.O.B : [text box]

I wonder if it is possible to go directly to a certain field for a particular section when an validation checking error occurred.

Let's say if the DOB has an invalid input, the focus will directly go to section B and DOB field. Any idea of how to do it ?

Well there is a javascript function for focusing on fields so I imagine you could just do something like;

//ditto.....

//--></script>

or something to that effect....??

Is there any way to do it with only PHP ? And my form actually call itself for the validation checking.

To place focus on the form, you HAVE to use javascript, because it is the language that pretty much "owns" the document object model.

That said, you can use PHP to check the data for validity on submission, and then either regenerate the form with a <body onload=document.formname.itemname.focus()> tag if it has an error or process it and put up a summary screen.

How do I make the focus stay in a text box until the user enters the value I want.

just check the value every keydown stroke.
