M$ Word -> TEXT (advanced)

This is a longshot, but ........

I'm looking for a utility that takes a binary MS Word document and converts it to HTML.

I've just opened up a sample word.doc as a binary in Textpad and I see a lot of Hex stuff, and the (converted?) text intetmingled to the RHS with tags such as
F.O.R.M.A.T..T.E.X.T.

Now I have no experience with converting Binary/Hex at all but I'm willing to have a stab @ it as I have an application for this kind of script

Does anyone out there have an idea where I can start looking to get some pointers, I had a look @ the bin2hex php function, but all it does is just that, would I then convert the hex to ascii (clutching @ straws)

BTW I've made a few posts on ASP related boards to see if there are some VB scripts that I might possibly convert

I gave up in the end, it was only a pet project, nothing urgent.

I mentioned RTF as it was at least plain text and not a binary file, there is definitely scope for parsing it
