Pattern Matching between % and %

Hi

I have the following code:

$body = "i need to replace %this% word";

$bodyCleaned = eregi_replace("%(.*)%", " ", $body);

I want to be able to replace anything within percent marks with a whitespace.

This does not work.

Please Help!!
