random banner ad

Does anyone know how to make a random banner ad generator. It doesn't have to be complicated.

All I want to do is put the html code with a each individual link to it, then have the script pick one.

I already have a php script with coding in php and html and I want to add a random banner ad on the bottom of each page.

Also, after giving me the code do you recommend any books that I can buy to learn PHP?

I did something similar to this using using include files and a random number generator.

e.g.
<?
$i = Rand(1,$totalnumberofincludefiles);

include ("$i.htm")?>

name your include files 1.htm 2.htm etc

and off you go.

you can play about alot with the way in which you generate the include files but starting doing them in HTML rather than scripting.

As far as learning look at the tutorials etc on this site / other dev sites and use the manual on here.

I don't really understand the code.. Can you maybe simplify it a bit..

Something like

<?
// code to make it random

?.....?

// array of links and images
ad ("<a href="link1.html"><IMG SRC="pic1.gif"></A>,
"<a href="link2.html"><IMG SRC="pic2.gif"></A>,",
"<a href="link3.html"><IMG SRC="pic3.gif"></A>,");

Then I just put

<?php echo "$ad"; ?>

were I want the banner to be displayed.

You need to generate a random variable.
<?
$i = Rand(1,$maxnumberofadds)

//see general help titled "better random" posted yesterday for a better random generated number

then

echo "$ad[$i]";

that'll do ya
