Controling download file

I just wondering if there is a php code to have the server send a file to us?

ex:
everyone that access to my webpage have it's username and password!

When they click to download a file
(which is actually php file to keep track who is clicking that and store that information.)
If they have a right username and password than php, store who's downloading and then send that file to them!

I know how to get the users data and store it but, what I don't know is how to make it so that when people click on the file that they want to download it seems that the server send the file directly to them! No pop up please!

If you are meaning:

When they click on a link the server emails something to them....just use the tutorial on MIME on phpbuilder and have the script send them an email with an attachment and then redirect them to another page so they can keep on surfing!

Otherwise you are stuck with the pop up.

Hmm.. actually I'm kind a prefer not to use e-mail. what I actually want is just send the file to the user like what you guys regulary experience during download file.

here's a script that I got from a tutorial with a little modification anyone can use it.
