The five latest files

Go to: http://www.icosmoss.com/ and you'll see this project tracker (New Source Codes). What I want to do is automate this updater with PHP. It should display the 5 newest files by grabbing their date in the database table.

It should sort the result by date; the latest comes to the top.

How can I do this? Thanks

Use this SQL-query:

$sql = "SELECT whatever FROM tablename ORDER BY date DESC LIMIT 0,5";

That should do the trick.

This is so cool! Thanks alot. By renaming the index file to php3 the current date dissappears and the polls. Since now I've used this code for the date:

<!--#config timefmt="%A, %B %d %Y" --><!--#echo var="DATE_LOCAL" -->

and this for the pollings:

<!--#exec cgi="cgi-bin/pollit/pollit_ssi.pl" -->

How can I translate it into PHP?

I'm already successful with the date code. The only thing now is executing the CGI-script. How can I do this?

I tried this but it doesn't help:

I don't know what the command will be in PHP, but there is a neat work-around. You could try to keep the execution code in a .shtml (or whatever you used), and do this:

<? virtual("myfile.shtml"); ?>

I thought (not sure!) that this works just like a normal include, except the file is being parsed BEFORE it's included. Hope it'll get you a bit further...

How can you use the virtual function to parse something from another webserver or directory below the http root

I don't know how to. However, you could use the file() function that returns that file in an array, separated by that file's line-ends. You could then print all the lines in you document. However (again), if you want to use PHP code from that file, I think you'll get a few problems, of which I cannot tell you how to solve 'em. Hope this helps.
