interbase connect

Hi,

I use win98+apache+php4.0+interbase6.0
I want to connect interbase but it gives such a warning at my first attempt to connect the server:

Warning: InterBase: I/O error for file "song.gdb" Error while trying to open file The network path was not found. in c:\program files\apache group\apache\htdocs\sarki\index.php on line 17

line 17 is:
$co=ibase_connect($ip,$user,$pass);

ip,user and pass are defined before as:
$ip='localhost';
$user='root';
$pass='gurkan';

what is worng? why i can't use interbase?

Hi,

Are you using win32? win98?

I couldn't get the extensions to work on my 98, so I moved over to Linux. It was a good descision, really fast and stable.

If you want to stay win windows, use the odbc-drivers at www.xtg-systems.com or www.easysoft.com.

The xtg is free but has problems with swedish and probably any international chars.

Also, there is a bug in the easysoft if You want to use stored procedures both modifies the db and returnes values, the transactions doesn't seem to be commited, so no data is
inserted/changed. (like select * from sp_insertCust('new cust')😉

Try win2000 or go linux. ibconsole is now available for x, for furher info, use news at www.borland.com/interbase.

If you want to I can send You include-files I've used to enable "good-enough" platform independence.

And use firebird. Better udf's.

Ok, I have to ask. Why did you choose Interbase over PostgreSQL?

I went from MS-SQL and found much working in the same manner.
Today postgrees seems stable, but it wasn't one year ago.
I liked the speed of building the db in interbase using ibconsole.
It runs on win32, linux, Mac10 and BSD. I couldn't get postgres to
work on my windows workstation.
There are good newsgroups. (at borland.com, mers)
Firebird is an interesting fork, 100% open source (as Borland has been a bit floating in this matter)
Has been used for years in mission critical applications, as the russian stock market, american tanks, russian areoflot aircompany.
Easy to maintain and fast.
Good documentation, over 1000 pages pdf.

It would be nice to see some real world performance tests between the two, as postgres lately has wun a lot of credits.
