How to insert/access Array type fields in Oracle 8

Hi,
Working with Oracle 8i and PHP4
The problem is with inserting/accessing array-type fields.
The error that i am receiving the following error:
\"inconsistent datatype in....\"
at the line where the OCIParse(...) is there.
What is the solution
