Get value in a cookie ?

Hello everybody.
How do I get the value from a cookie which was set in a previous session ???
When I try to print the value with HTTP_COOKIE_VARS["cookie_name"] or with $cookie_name, nothing is shown...
Is there another way to access the cookie ?
