Hiya,

i've got a simple validating url thingy to see if a url is valid before making it a link. it's not done every time a user accesses the page, but is run routinely on some xml, so the fact it takes some time doesn't matter.

Anyway, it worked last week, and now only the links in my network work. everything else (such as http://www.php.net/) i get

Transport endpoint is not connected

when i execute

fopen("http://www.php.net/", "r");

i don't even comprehend the error message - which isn't a good start 🙂 could it be a problem with my network? or is it just some sloppy code somewhere... grumble grumble.

can anyone help?

Did it ever connect to remote hosts? - normally I would say that it is your servers set-up - if you are using a proxy-server you can not use fopen() on remote hosts- you need to get your host to cache local files for you and then grab them.

But if it has worked once - either your server has decided to disallow these calls or you have been barred from the other end - but this is unlikely - or you have an error in your code that is recently added (but if local calls work ok this too is unlikely.

I would start with your host - the problem is probably there.

I ahve run into a similar problem (see my post for more details). It started 2-3 weeks ago. On all 3 systems I ahve tried it on (on different providers and the such).
Hmm, anyone ahve any conspiracy theories? ;-)
