saving search results on local hard disk???

I use php4 together with an oracle database; is there any chance to save the results (that the database user can see on his pc screen) in a file (doc or txt) on the users local hard disk???

Without the user's permission? no.
With the users permission, sure: Tell the user to save the current html page to disk.

save the results to a file on the server, then use a javascript call to set the window's location to ftp://<host><filename> (this assumes you have anonymous ftp access set up, obviously.)

this should then prompt the user to save the file locally.

i think. i haven't tested it. have fun ;-)

it would be better netiquette, though, to simply provide a link to the file saying 'click here to save a copy of your results', or somesuch.

This method is also "with the users permission", the user has to agree to download. This could also be done using a header() by the way.

I agree it would be much better netiquette to offer an "extra service" of allowing the download of search results.

Hi, Definitely set this script up to give the user the choice of saving to his local. This script (The way it is now)will automatically write a txt file or whatever extention you put on it to the user`s C: drive or whatever directory you want. Here ya go:
