Functions

Ok,
I finally got cookies and sessions working, but when I try to access the cookies and sessions from functions, it wont pull them. I know the sessions are set. I have a phpinfo page setup so I can see if they are set. The way I have my application setup, is this way:

functions.php  -- All my functions.
index.php       -- All my cases

I have about 30 functions in the functions page. All my functions are called from index.php. My login function sets the sessions, and another function calls the sessions and cookies. I dont think it is working properly.

Can someone give me some assistance.

This might be because you need to use the "global $var" command in your function.

Every time you create a new function, you can guess that PHP will not allow you to touch ANY variables outside of that function unless you first say "global $myvar" before trying to use $myvar.

I know that it has bitten me more than once.

Example1:

$thing = "blah";
function print_thing_wrong()
{
echo $thing; // won't print anything
return;
}
function print_thing_right()
{
global $thing;
echo $thing; // will print 'blah'
return;
}
?>

This applies to cookie variables, get variables, post variables, etc...

Or, if you use HTTP_POST_VARS and HTTP_GET_VARS, you can pass those arrays to the function in the parameters.
