Dealing with Mac/Win/Linux linebreak differences

I've built an administration interface for php3 / Linux, which was developed on WinNT/php3. Since uploading, i've noticed that when clients on Mac access the sections for editing textfiles, their browser seems to double up the line breaks in the text.

now this wouldn't be a problem, except that the text is actually used for content in Flash 4 developed on Mac, and the double spaces show up.

Is there an easy way of differentiating between mac linebreaks and windows linebreaks, and stripping them out accordingly?

apologies if this is a braindead question, but I'm an ASP/ColdFusion developer moving into PHP, and the php manual isn't that helpful

Well are you sure it's actualy doubling up on the linebreaks and it's not just some sorta weird compatability issue with flash? A good way to check this is just output the data directly to a normal page and check the source of that page in your browser, if it has double lines then it is doubling up the lines, if not then you may have to replace the linebreaks with what ever the standard linebreak command is in Flash, probably 'CR' ('/r') but then thats all up to trial and error.

windows user CR-LF (\r\n) for a linebreak, wherease linux uses just \n and, from the context of your question, it appears that macs doo too.

about the only thing i can reccomend is a ereg_replace("\r\n","\n",$file) before you save the file, or when you read it in.
