Pager question

Just wondering, can PHP be used to send a pager message to someone?

I looked for info on this but didn't find much.

Usually pagers have email addresses which automatically get forwarded to the pager. If this is the case, use the mail() function. However, I dont think there is a way to send paging radio signal from a server (however, u may be able to find a pager gateway, kinda like a fax gateway.)

I in fact use scripts on my machine at home that checks my machines at work every hour to see if they're up and emails me a text based page when it loses connection or they go down.
