can php4 use a Win95 environment variable?

hi there,

I've got one little question. Can php4 "target" and "use" a Win95 environment variable that is on every of our network pc's harddisk???
In this environment variable is some user specific stuff that I like to use.

yurgh. possibly............ i don't know any hardcore windows system programming, but i can speculate.
windows environment variables are stored in the system registry, yes? now, if you know which file the variable is stored in then you could open it up, and grep for the variable name.

bit of a hack, but it's the only thing i can think of..

huuuuh, that sounds a bit tricky....

ok, as far as I know they ARE stored in the registry. I even searched for the file and I guess I found it. I'm still not 100% sure, so give me some more time to check it...

ok, but there is still the problem of how to open it and take the variable from there with php;

hmmm, I've got no idea how I can do this
