Wierd form behaviour with php4/apache

I've been getting a really wierd effect with php4/apache. I have a form, which gets passed to a php file for processing. The odd thing is when I click back on the browser, the form fields lose their contents.

This only started happening after I rewrote the code involved, but I've looked over it all and there aren't any differences, except for using the <?= php4 shortcut.

Has anyone else seen this, or knows how to fix it?

Yep, i've seen it and it's not really a php problem, it has to do with the way the browsers handle a form, it's really quite annoying. Thou I do have a simple solution, just register all the variables as cookies then if the user hits the back button the script can read those cookie values and place them into their coresponding items value property. This of course will only work provided the page doesn't allow cache'ing and always reloads from the server.

Ok, using cookies was too annoying, so I've switched to registering a couple of session variables for the fields, which works a lot better.

That's probably what you were suggesting in the first place. Never mind.

Yeh, that does the same thing, just didn't know if you wanted to get into the whole session thing so I figured I'd suggest normal cookies first and go from there. 🙂
