HELPME: Run a php script - don't wait for output

I wish to :

have a PHP script which calls another PHP script and doesn't wait for it to finish executing.

Any ideas?

Why? 'Cause it's a mail out which mails an arbitary amount of people (currently about 1000), and although it works fine, the browser times out, and confuses the user making them think the script has failed.

That only works if you have (also) compiled PHP into a CGI binary.

The script I am running

The PHP application

Furthermore, how to I pass params with this exec method?

PHP.

You can't compile a php script, you can only execute it.
Read the manual for more information about installing/compiling PHP with the GD library.

I have no options with re-compliling PHP itself as I rent space on a server, on the basis that PHP stuff is 'as-is'.

Other to my PHP work I've been working with a commercial CMS. It's docuemntation is incomplete, I wish I could get my employers to see the light that open source solutions are sometimes better cause you can get access to a community of developers without waiting 2 days for a query to Technical Support to be answered.

Do you have access to perl? If so, you could just rewrite the mail script in
perl and execute that, or you could write it as a separate page in php and
then exec a tiny perl "connector" that retrieves the php mailing page.
