Mail Attachments POP3

All of the mail scripts out for download that can actually RECEIVE mail attachments use IMAP functions. Unfortunatly not a servers have IMAP installed. Is there a way to recieve attachments without IMAP? Ive been looking for days now and ive come to determine that its impossible. Someone please tell me this isnt true and point me in the right direction... Thanks in advanced.

well... the manual states the following:

Unfortunately, even though the imap functions aren't limited to imap-functionality only, they still require PHP to be compiled and installed with imap support. PHP is not distributed with this as a default (and in fact you need to download an imap library from a different site; more info about that in the imap functions manual section), so most admins don't take the time to add that extra perk.
