Start exe file from php.

Is it possible to start an exe file locally on my harddrive using php?

I am using Apache and Windows 2000.
My aim is to start a MP3 file when calling a php function without using html tags. I tried exec and system but could not get it to work. Any ideas how to do it?

i don't think you can. this is one of those things you loose when you ditch command line interaction from an os

I compiled a playlist of songs I wanted, and passed it as a command line parameter to winamp.exe. This should work for you too, assuming your PHP4+/Win32. Anyway, your welcome.

php errpes when i do this (i think its waiting for winamp to finish), also winamp seems to run as a process so i dont see the window. which is annoying, because if winamp is already running i get to instances of it. any idea why?

I had the same problem when I tried to execute a program that controls Winamp for me. Try the setting in the 'Services manager' 'Allow this service to interact with desktop'. Also, you could try to execute:

exec('%windir%\system32\cmd.exe /c C:\progra~1\winamp\winamp.exe');
