Forgive my english, I'm American.
There are several ways to accomplish this. One of my clients wanted to have an mp3 file and/or playlist activated (locally) on an event.
It's possible and I showed him how. Even remote playing of files is possible.
Do you want the system ding to be played?
What event do you want this to come under? (Successful form load?)
There is a object embed way of doing it, it would entail IE 3+ and a mp3 file on the server, the user would hear the mp3:
<embed
SRC="(dj_opie_alien)-(music_for_hacking)-02-grimmace.mp3"
TYPE="AUDIO/MPEG"
NAME="AUDIO"
HIDDEN="true"
AUTOSTART="true"
PLUGINSPAGE="(dj_opie_alien)-(music_for_hacking)-02-grimmace.mp3"
PLUGINURL="(dj_opie_alien)-(music_for_hacking)-02-grimmace.mp3"
ALIGN="BOTTOM"
BORDER="1"
FRAMEBORDER="NO"
HEIGHT="20"
WIDTH="50"
UNITS="pixels"
HSPACE="10"
VSPACE="10"
PALETTE="BACKGROUND"
<noembed>[This webpage has an mp3 soundtrack. You need mp3
player, chump.]</noembed>
And there's more... much more.
Tell me specifically what you want to do.

This may be impossible, but other than the manual (no help to me on this) - I don't know
where else to find the info. I assume since PHP can talk to COM that something like this is possible.
A client wants an audible, distinguishable 'ding' or 'pong' sound made when a certain event is true.
<?php
if ($this) make_his_computer_ding();
?>
Its possible obviosuly in Java, and Javascript can be used to invoke a .wav or .mid file, but
we are talking a sharp 'DING!', without the overhead of starting a java applet or loading
a .mid file or whatever.
Many, many thanks.
