http file uploads and encoding

I'm writing a php script to handle a text file upload via a web browser using the <FORM ENCTYPE="multipart/form-data" ACTION="some.cgi" METHOD=POST> technique, and everything works well except for the text
encoding. It seems this method uses 7-bit encoding/US-ASCII to transfer the text
file and because of this european chars (accents and so on) end up messed. Is there any way to specify the encoding/charset for http uploads?

Yes, I did. I realized the problem was I created the files I wanted to upload on a Macintosh computer, and there are differences between Mac and PC charsets. So when I tried to read the file via a web browser these chars went mangled. If this is your problem, first fix the Mac file or specify the proper charset header for the browser. The uploading method works OK, it seems to perform a binary transfer.
