Array Help

I have the following text stored in my db:

Burlingame
Half Moon Bay
El Granada
Moss Beach
Montara
Pacifica

Exactly like that.

What I need to do is to load this into an array, then sort it, then spit out each [] of the array.

The reason is I would like to spit the data into a table which shows more like 2 columns of 3 rather than 1 column of 6 which is unsorted.

Try this:
$neededArray=array("Burlingame", "Half Moon Bay", "El Granada", "Moss Bay", "Montara", "Pacifica"😉;
sort($neededArray);
for($arrayLoop="0";$arrayLoop <= count($neededArray);$arrayLoop++){print $neededArray[$arrayLoop];}

This doesn't seem to work - all it does is throw the whole array into one <td>.

here is the db entry when i do the select at the shell:

You can't store an array in mysql directly,
Use implode or serialize to change an array into something you can out into a database

For this example, use explode() to change the string into an array

explode("\n",$row["content"])

Actually his code is alright In my drunken stuper last night I forgot to add in the $i++; see below/ He isn't try to store the array directly in MySQL he is loping through the result set and adding the field to an array after the query has been made.

$result = mysql_query("SELECT * from content where username = '$acctname'",$db);

Nope - still not happening..

The row I want to Array is a list of cities broken by nl, e.g.

Town1
City1
City2
Town3

I need to sort them and the out them into an array which can spit them out one by one.

I can then do a while loop and count so I end up with a table which is 2 by 2 as opposed to 4 by 1

I guess I am not following you. YOu say you have a field in your db which has a bunch of city names in it. Then you say you want something like
Town1
City1
City2
Town3

what is the difference between the Town and City And how does the PHP know which is which. At first you said you wanted to have two across now you say you want two by two not 4 by 1. But your db print out contains a hell of a lot more than 4 records. Please clarify what you need excatly!

In my databse is:

Town1
City1
City2
Town3

Towns and cities split be line breaks.

I need to turn those into an array e.g. $place[] and the be able to sort them and spit them out one by one e.g. $place[0], $place[1], $place[2] etc... which would be City1, City2, Town1

I can then decide how to display them, maybe 2 by 2, maybe 4 by 1 - once they are in an array i can do what I need with them.

Hope this is clearer now - apologies for the miscommunication.

Anyone found the solution for Darren? I have the same problem. Need to turn every result fetched into an array so I can echo it at any place I like.

Just split it the record and you have an array.
Chop each element to get rid of the trailing newline,
Sort the array and print the elements as required.

I have a MySQL database table like this:

ID | Material | Packaging | Weight

01 | Plastic | Box | 10 kg
02 | Wood | Reel | 5 kg
03 | Plastic | Reel | 5 kg
04 | Metal | Box | 10 kg
05 | Metal | Reel | 5 kg

I can retrieve an array (e.g. Material) and loop through it using 'while' and 'echo', or 'printf' etc., and get:

Plastic
Wood
Plastic
Metal
Metal

but is there a way to loop through the array and produce another array with these elements which can then be manipulated further, e.g. to remove the duplicates?

I have done a lot of searches and can't find an answer.
