How do i find out if a url is an image

how do i know if a file is an immage, because some sites redirect .jpg etc, is there anyway to find out if a url is an image

You can get header information from returned page, or you can parse the url and find out whether it contains image extension (gif, jpeg, etc).

I'm hoping to create a link from various images, that will run a script that will recognize the url of the image source as a variable. So the script has to recognize the url of the image, but not the referral page.
