Reading a JPEG

Hi,

I need to be able to read a jpeg into an 2d array with each item representing the hex triplet (i.e. #FFCC00)

I'm sure this is pretty easy if I have the jpeg library installed with GD. However I don't, and don't have much voice at my service provider to make them do a re-compile.

Has anybody got ideas around this?

Maybe I could use php in conjuction with a perl module?

Wouldn't that be much simpler if you converted the jpg to bmp first,
and then read it into php?

Find a converter like djpeg, whixh you can run using EXEC().
Then read the php manual on how to open binary files to read 3 bytes at a time.
