Zip Code Code

I was wondering if anyone had any 'canned' code which allows zip code searches - meaning:

Search for everything in this Zip code and anything within X miles of it too. (where X can be a dropdown with like 5, 10, 25 miles etc.)

I have seen it used a lot elsewhere so don't really want to have to rewrite the book :0)

(Yes, it is a web page, despite the host name...) And be sure to look
at the FAQs as the page recommends, to see all the limitations of
geographical searches based on zipcode, and note also these files
are 10 years old (based on the 1990 census.)

Now, if I can get code which allows me to find, let's say, 5 miles from a Longitude and Latitude co-ordinate I'm set - any ideas?
