Form parsing help - multiple select selectboxes

I'm having a problem figuring out how to get all the elements of a select input box that allows multiple selections (or similarly a group of checkboxes with the same name [different values])

If the selectbox is named "myselection" and I select multiple selections, then when I try to access $myselection on the next page, it just gives me the LAST item selected. You'd think that it would store this information in an array called $myselection but apparently that is not so.

Any help is appreciated..

Well there might be a better way, but what I did is I gave each of the select boxes its own name (like $box, $box2). Then set $boxes = $box1seperator$box2; then parse that.

I found it.

Apparently you have to have your input name end with [] to have PHP treat it like an array.

YOu should be make your data as array :"cars[]"
<select name=cars[] multiple size=3>
<option value=1>BMW
<option value=2>honda
<option value=3>Toyota
</select>

Get the data back:
for ($i=0; $i < count($cars); $i++) {
print $cars;
}

just want to add for fun to this topic that helped me out!

the <option value=""> does not have to be in nr just in case someone is wondering

first selected option gets the cars[0] and so on.

SO how do you combine this [] notation with Javascript to order the elements in the multiple select box BEFORE submitting the form?
