what is allowed memory size exhausted?

I keep getting this error. My script is ok and has no error in it. Why do I get this error and how can I solve it. The error is:

The reason you get this error is that your php.ini file by default sets the memory limit for a script to 8 MB. You can "fix" this problem by upping the memory limit, but the real problem probably lies in your script. Why is your script using more than 8 MB? We would need to see your script to help with that. Are you possibly reading a huge amount of data from a database or a file? If so, there is probably a more efficient way to do it.

I was trying to upload files. I mean files because I used loops that print number of "browse" button. But when the memory was increased in the server, the problem went away. ... Anyway, thanks for giving some hints. Another problem I am having is that my script just stops when I click the submit button. No error reported. Nothing. When I looked the source in MSE, I just the point where the script stopped and there is nothing wrong at that point in the script. Could you know why?
