Help! Maybe a very difficult problem.

There is a very difficult problem to me, I have posted here serverl times, but no one can answer me porperly.
My problem is how to get a URL's last modify time. So I need't visit the URL, and i can know whether or not the URL is update.

you can use fopen() to read the file in the URL, and you can check the file update time by filemtime()

Are you talking about files on your server, or on
remote locations?

The files are on remote locations, such as
"www.somesite.com/somepage.htm".

Daarius suggested me use "fopen" and "filemtime", but they are not work, the result show me the time 1970.01.01, maybe my mistake, but give me some advice, the script
is best.

You can't get an ordinary fstat() via HTTP,
but if you're willing to talk HTTP directly
you can request the page headers only
(by saying HEAD instead of GET in your
HTTP request) and look at the Last-Modified:
header sent back.
