write file for a database record

please guid me in the right direction for this task... I am a complete amature...

I have a database of products...
I want to open up a directory, then,
for each product:

1. create a new file
2. name the file as the product ID
3. print product ID in the text file
4. save/close the file

How do I go about doing this ..
can you tell me which functions to use
and how to use them? ..

sounds easy - what database are you using ?

in general you create directories with mkdir() (see the manual) and "create" files with fopen()

All you need is a query that returns a result set of all the IDs and text that you want, then loop through generating the files..
