exporting an excel file as csv

Can somebody guide me on writing a script which will upload an excel file and will then convert it into csv.

Even if u could tell me how to export an excel file as csv,in php, it wud be of great help.

Why not just export a csv from excel itself?

I'm with Vincent - save the Excel Spreadsheet "as" CSV and use PHPs "readCSV" function to work with the data...

Even if you found a way to extract the info from a version 5 excel worksheet, what happens when the user upgrades to v6 ? :⁾

CSV files will also be smaller to upload I bet...

You should be able to convert the XML file to CSV using the XSL stylesheet.

Hmm.... what if (like me) you've got about 100 Excel files, each with multiple worksheets with several thousand rows of data, and you need them all converted to CSV? Is there some way to convert entire batches of files?

The trick here is to do automate this process, thus having it done at the command line with a cron or windows scheduler.
Anyone can "Save as.." a .cvs file.

I also need a way to automate the process of creating a csv from excel. We wish to avoid the step of manually converting excel to cvs. There must be a way???
