upload mime type

where does php get it's list of mime types for file uploads?
It doesn't seem to be comming from Apache. Most of the files I am uploading come up as application/unknown

I would like to extend the list of known MIME types, so I don't have to prompt the user for the proper one. I can approximate it with the file extention, but there will be lots of mac users, where they aren't in the habbit of dealing with such things.

if you are using a "file" form field called (say) "form_data" then the MIME type is already present as $form_data_type in the uploaded file.

along with
$form_data_name and
$form_data_size

Is this what you mean?
