magic quotes() !!!!!

hi question about magicquotes...i have magic quotes turned on right now and say i enter in text (into the mysql db): i'm a girl

when i view (after querying the db) it appears like:
i\'m a girl

thats what i dont want...i want it to appear the same way i typed it....isnt the whole purpose of magicquotes to addslashes when entering and then REMOVE slashes when viewing? how come the slashes arent being removed? any help would be appreicated..thanks =)

use strip_slashes();
its in the manual

I've found this to be the easiest setting:
magic_quotes_gpc=on
magic_quotes=off

This will result in escaped data when a user posts a form and will result in non-escaped data when you retrieve it from the database.
