What about just doing the popup in Java? Aren't most of the calendars out there (like on the airline sites) done in Java?

You can try out the site www.weberdev.com and check out the PHP calendar sections.

Is has a few code samples for PHP generated HTML calendarrs or functions to create calendards.

Prettu basic stuff, you can modify to your own needs. Just a starting block. May be of help.
