spanning opages?

Hello!

I was wondeirng if anybody would be able to help me with something

I am building a shopping site and was wondering if there were a way to dyanimcally create a set of web pages that would showcase a set of products?

eg, say i have 74 products but do not want to show them on one page, is there a way to make it span say 8 pages with 10 products on the first 7 and 4 on the last?
The pages would have to shrink or grow in number depending on how many products were returned

I am using php 3.0.9

Based on what you're describing, it sounds to me like this could be accomplished by using a template for the display of your products. Then set up a function to feed the template the products. Design the function to accept a hash that contains references to the products. Dependent upon the size of the hash, the functions would disperse the products across the pages (which is just a template that is fed the products) in a variety of ways.

Maybe I've over-simplified this a bit, but it sounds to me like this could also be made easier through the use of classes (but maybe that's just me - I write Java all day long).

Are you using MySQL to store the products?

If you are you can limit the number of results like this:

mysql_query("SELECT * FROM product_table LIMIT $startingpoint, 10");

where $startingpoint would be 1 for the first page, 11 for second page etc...

One thing though, I am uncertain as to what a hash is! From what I know, a hash has something to do with security! How is it related to something containing references?
