how does SMS work

hi, i am facinated by SMS n am trying to find articles realted to it but cant find them. do u hv ne idea where i can get to learn the basics of SMS n how i can use PHP to do the coding. mailsurf.com is one site which is really impressing n i keep wondering how they hv done it. i mean u type in the mobile num n bang the person gets the SMS IMM !!! do u hv ne idea how it is done ??? if yes pls email me... also if u r interested in doing some work on this together i am ready for that...

We are doing a fair aount of this, you will need to purchase a gateway, licence, over the air tools etc. Not cheap!

hi J,
for sms to work u hv to tie up with some SMSCenter in ur area to whom u will redirect ur sms msg to n the SMSC will take care of routing it to the rt GSM...

u will need the help of a SMSC inshort for sending ne SMS... chkout Wapmx.com or deltica.com

Do I need to have anything else ie: software, hardware etc. besides the licence to be able to send sms messages ??

This is a little bold but are there any free php sites u know of that would give this licence for free.
