Password protect a folder using a DB

I'm looking for some referements about how to password protect a folder usign PHP and MySQL to store user name and passwords.

Try using .htaccess files if it is a folder you want to protect. But it would be more clever to use a user/password login to pages in that folder using sessions or something like that.

Do yoiu mean that I should protect each page by putting a control and DB query ?

It could be ok, but my trouble is not fixed: I want also to protect downloadable files in that folder...

I think I should find some way to interact directly with the .htaccess file...

Any other idea about ?

Dood, if you have *nix is easy, because you can just do a chmod on the entire folder, so no one without access will be able to access anything in there. To get help using chmod in Unix, simply type "man chmod" or just learn some Unix. Sorry, but I don't know to much unix at all, all I know is from my Unix Shell account. By the way, telnet to sdf.lonestar.org and login as visitor to create an account for free
