Email Format

I have 2 questions:
1)I am trying to format a table into text format email for different email servers. Since the content of the table has different length, I tried using strlen to see the length of the text and set a max length per column to force them into a table. It works great for outlook and yahoo. (Maybe the font size for them are courier) Email for aol looks completely different due to the type of fonts. I like to know if there is a way to format the table to fit everyone's need.
Using tab is definitely not working...
2)Has anyone able to check whether your recipient can read html email or not? I know a great deal of mail server can see it, however, aol users can not. Is there a way to check this in my mail application? Can I ping the recipient's mail server in anyway? --Suggestions?

email server doesn't determine if the user can see html email, the client program does. You could look at the email addresses before the email is sent. Have your script send plain text emails to aol and html emails to everyone else for example

I know there are ways to set up the headers so that if the client can see HTML email, it'll default to that, otherwise show text if they can't see HTML. I'm not sure on the header syntax, though. Search around on here or Devshed because I've seen it discussed. Or, look through some of your own emails to see what the headers look like.
