Are there any php aware programs out for the writing of php code. I would love to be able to use EMACS to correctly indent my code so that it is more readable, and possibly even colored syntax highliting to match what is displayed when you view a .phps file. If anyone knows where I can get any program / addon that does this, please let me know.

code warriors, an integrated development environment, is a editor which WILL feature php (at least that's what they say). So maybe after a while, check it out to see if they have added syntax highlighting for php. you can search for this program at freshmeat.net (or maybe sourceforge.net).

emacs version? personally, i'ven't used emacs since ... a long time so I wouldn't really know.

hmm oddd.. I though code warriors was free.. maybe i got the names confused.

anyway, there is this one I found: Script Editor.

Its mozilla based. They claim to have php support, but haven't tried it yet. I have a puny 56.6 k modem and I'm too lazy to download files (even if they are small :-)

there is a free program called Code Crusader that attempts to do what Code Warrior does, it's on freshmeat.

This isnt a free solution but Allaire's HomeSite color codes and makes your code MUCh easier to read. Although this is not a free solution, it is definatly worth your money for any type of web programming.

Of course it does. It supports an array of computer languages. You have to download a wordlist file to support PHP keywords. To download the wordfile go to:

My fav CoolEdit. Can be found on RedHat's site as RPM. Very easy to get up and running with that one. One small problem, mine came with the PHP syntax bound to the .php3 extension. But, one quick edit of the ~myhome/.cedit/Syntax file to include these lines (as long as you comment out the php lines)

file ..*\.(php|PHP|Php|php3|Php3)$ PHP\sProgram ^<?
include php.syntax

will fix that.

Do you know of any way to make gvim support auto-completion of keywords and displaying of function arguments (after I write the function call)? Whould be nice to have a good editor that do these things, I've seen some proprietary IDE's that support it. But I like vim. Would also be nice if the editor inserted a default class declaration construct when I begin to declare a class. Thank you.
