difference PHP3 and PHP4???

Can somebody tell me the difference between PHP3 and PHP4 in simple words??

I need this for a document I'm making for school.
It's almost finished, but I don't know the exact differences ??

I looked at it, but I can't give a short description what the changes are, in simple words ...

(I have to explain why I used PHP4 in stead of PHP3, I have to explane in short what the difference is)
